THE CHARDONNAYS OF VIRÉ-CLESSÉ IN SPRING

The white wines of Burgundy are essentially chardonnays. Not far from the original village of Chardonnay, in the south of Burgundy and to the east of Macon, are the villages of Viré and Clessé, whose vineyards produce a range of relatively simple yet pleasant white wines, which can be tasted during an annual Spring Festival – les printemps de Viré-Clessé. Phoenix Wine club decided to explore this festival with guests from the Japanese communities in two of Switzerland’s main German-speaking cities – Zurich and Berne – respectively the business and the political capitals of France’s neighbour.

The festival impressed by its organization, the spring weather was perfect, and the wines offered for tasting by 28 different caves demonstrated an agreeable variety. This outing showed once again that wherever one decides to visit in Burgundy, to the north or to the south, The Phoenix Wine Club provides both an enjoyable ambience and pleasant surprises!
