THE HOSPICES DE BEAUNE WINE AUCTION

Phoenix Wine Club held its first wine-tourism event on the occasion of the 154th auction of wines from the domain of the Hospices de Beaune on 15 and 16  November 2014.

Members of the Japan Club of Geneva stayed at Club Headquarters, the Chateau of Saint Germain du Plain, for two memorable days. The Club turned on traditional Burgundy hospitality for the guests during this magnifcent weekend.

The festivities began at the Chateau with tasting of the 14 wines and champagnes currently distributed by the Club in Japan. Just to cite Meursualt, Corton Charlemagne, Pommard, Nuits Saint Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin, among others, the tasting of such wines enabled the guests to discover the diversity and finesse of Burgundy terroirs. Dinner at the Chateau provided the occasion to associate these wines with typical regional dishes prepared by the Chateau team.

The highlight of the weekend was without doubt the visit on Sunday to the cellars of the Hospices de Beaune for the tasting which is generally open only to wine professionals prior to the opening of the Auction. No less than 46 wines were available this year for tasting.

The 154th Auction was conducted in the afternoon and was transmitted around the world.

A unique occasion for the Japan Club of Geneva participants, who were still sharing their enthusiasm when they invited Yuko Matsuoka Harris and her husband Bob to a Swiss fondu by the lake in Geneva three weeks later!
